How To Get Started
Broadcasting your school’s sports games as a SRSN Partner School is easier than you think, and SRSN will help you every step of the way.
Step 1: Contact Us and Start the Conversation!
It all starts with a conversation. Shoot us an email at info@saddlerocksolutions.com or call 719-859-4133.
Step 2: Select an “Owning” Group
The “Owning” group is simply the group that will be responsible for managing the Production Team and producing the broadcasts. This could be a group within the school (i.e., Drama Department, Media Club, Athletic Department, the Senior Class, FBLA, FFA, etc.). The owning group could also be an extracurricular group that is not officially part of the school (a 4-H club, church media team). SRSN’s mission is to equip students, so the Owning Group should be student or youth-focused.
Step 3: Get Necessary School Approvals
Once the Owning Group is identified, they need to get necessary approvals, likely from the school board and athletic department. SRSN will provide sample agreements, and be available to assist in the process, even attending school board meetings if necessary.
Step 4: Select a Point Person
For the long-term success of a school’s SRSN partnership, each school must designate a Point Person. This person will be the main point of contact between SRSN and the school production crew. In the first year of each school’s agreement with SRSN, this individual must be at least 18 years old. The Point Person could also be on a Game Day Production Crew, or they could simply handle logistics.
Step 5: Create a Game Day Production Crew
There must be 2 people on each Game Day Production Crew:
1. Camera Operator. This person will operate the camera that follows the action of the game.
2. Play-by-Play Announcer. The Announcer will highlight details of the game that may not be visible to the viewer. The Announcer should have a good knowledge of the sport being covered.
The Point Person can fill one of those two roles, or be present to supervise the crew, or hand game operations over to an experienced crew.
Step 6: Purchase/Secure Production Gear
SRSN will provide a detailed list of the equipment that is needed to broadcast a game. There will be several camera options provided, and each option provided will work with the SRSN framework. Schools may already have some of the gear. If cameras or other gear needs to be shared with other school clubs or classes, it could lead to scheduling conflicts. SRSN requires that each Production Crew either has its own gear, or exclusive rights to use the school’s equipment for the entire sports season(s) it will be covering.
Step 6. Get Trained by SRSN
SRSN will provide live in-person and virtual video training for all of the elements required for a successful broadcast:
- Pre-game prep: preparing player rosters, advertising game “scripts”
- Setting up and running the production equipment and software during games
- How to announce a game. Technical aspects, professionalism, appropriate humor, mentioning sponsors.
